Frequently Asked Questions

  • I've tried training before... How do I know you can help?

I get that. Not all dog training is the same or has the same results.

I encourage you to read the reviews from our many happy, satisfied customers on the reviews section here or on Google or Facebook.

I am confident that I can make a huge difference in your dogs obedience. If I dont think I can train your dog, I will let you know up front.

  • What happens after I contact you?

I will get back in touch with you ASAP and plan a time to chat more about your dog on the phone.  We will also have a "meet &greet" here in White House to get to know each other and your dog better.

But I do receive many calls and get busy at times. Please, if you dont hear back from me within a week, do call me at 615-955-2600

  • Do you offer any guarantees on the training provided?

Yes, we do have a lifetime  guarentee for our Board &Train Programs.

"Our Board & Train programs include our Lifetime Guarantee... never worry about your dog's training slipping over time! Anytime you have any questions or need any help polishing up things your dog learned in our program together, just let us know and we'll have a lesson to get you back on track."

  • What kind of training do you provide?

I am primarily a family dog obedience trainer.

I teach you and your dog how to communicate better to get better results.

I will train your dog to have good manners and be a joy to live with.

I also teach basic agility, treadmill, and tricks. But obedience training is my specialty.

Currently I am not doing aggresion rehab however I do work with reactive dogs.

What is the difference? Reactive dogs are just loud and excited seeing other dogs or people.

Agressive dogs actually want to do harm to other dogs or people.

  • What does "Lead By Love" mean?

That means that the best way to show and provide love to your dog is to lead them throughout life.

We teach the importance of balancing Leadership and Affection (Lead by Love). Most of us have no problem heaping tons of love and affection on our dogs. But without the balance of leadership, discipline, rules and obedience you are going to have a really messed up bratty dog that is not a joy to live with.

So we will be training you and your dog to balance:

    Leadership/ Affection

    Obedience/ Freedom

It will be simple, easy and yet quite challenging to do. However, you can do it!

  • I'm not sure which program is best for my dog. What do I do?

We will be happy to do a meet and greet to help assess where your dog is with his training needs. We will discuss the different programs and options and decide on dates for your dogs training. For new puppies we usually recommend at least a 21 day board and train. For older dogs many times a 14 day program will be sufficient. Call us today to arrange a free dog obedience and temperment evaluation.

We also have a "combo platter" of Private Lessons and a 14 Day Board & Train that we can talk about at your "meet & greet"

  • I'm interested in a Board & Train program. How do I sign up?

Start by filling out our "contact us" page and we will arrange a meet and greet to assess which Board and Train program would be best for your dog. Then simply complete the Registration and Waiver and a $200 deposit will secure the dates you choose.

Please be aware that I only train one dog at a time with either of our Board & Train Programs and there is usually a wait for a spot to open.

  • What is it like for my dog when he is in a Board & Train program?

First of all your dog will love being here with us and the other dogs! Don't worry about him missing you. You will miss him more than he will miss you. He is kept busy playing and learning new things every day. We usually take a day to adjust and get to know each other and then on the 2nd day the training begins. One new behavior at a time builds upon the last! But in the end he will be very happy to see you again when his training is over. (He won't forget you)

  • Do I need to be involved in the program in order for it to work?

Absolutely, yes. You will need to keep reinforcing all the new things your dog has learned. Dog discipline may be a new discipline for you and it is like any other discipline that you have in your life. If I am overweight but start eating better and working out, I will lose weight. But if I stop eating right and just sit around watching Netflix all day, the weight and poor health will return. Sorry, but its like that with your dog discipline to. You will need to stay with the program I will lay out for you and your dog. The whole family needs to be on the same page. And I'll be there to help, encourage you, and answer any questions you may have.

There is definitly more involvement and hands on training with the Personal Training Program.

And with any Board & Train we provide a Lifetime Guarentee. ( Thats the dogs life, not my life)

"Our Board & Train programs include our Lifetime Guarantee... never worry about your dog's training slipping over time! Anytime you have any questions or need any help polishing up things your dog learned in our program together, just let us know and we'll have a lesson to get you back on track."

  • What type of training philosophy do you adhere to?

My philosophy and goal is to improve the life and relationship of both dog and owner.

I want to make your dog a joy to live with for you and the whole family!

I am what is referred to as a Balanced Trainer. Balanced trainers believe that to have a well, adjusted obedient dog you need to reenforce positive behaviors and correct behaviors that we want to go away. I will teach your dog both "Yes" and "No". More than any other command words I use those two words to teach a dog what to do and not do.  This means that when I'm training a dog to do something I like, I reward him positively with things like, food, treats, toys, praise and the word, "Yes". I use a clicker for much of that type of training. (Especially for learning new tricks.) But to stop unwanted behaviors I use corrections with the word, "No". Many trainers only reward positive behaviors and ignore the unwanted ones. The down side to this approach is that it is often confusing for the dog and takes them longer to figure out what we are asking for. For those of us that have raised children, just think what your kids would be like today if you had only said "yes" to them and never said"no"! I believe in training all dogs in a clear, fair and humain manner that holds them accountable for what they have learned. We should be primarily positive but still correct for behaviors we don't want them to possess. Yes and No!

  • Do you provide any follow-up support or owner education?

Yes, lots. I am just a text or phone call away and will be happy to answer any questions you may have going forward on this journey called, "Dogs"! I will also be sending you supplemental articles, videos and book recommendations. Plus you will have access to our "Friends of Lead by Love" Facebook group to ask questions and receive answers to any issues you are facing with your dog.

    But wait there's more:

With a 21 Day Board & Train we will also board your dog when you need to be away.* As you have learned we are a small operation and only take on a few dogs at a time. But since your dog has been trained by me, we will give him priority on choosing dates for both boarding and additional training in other areas. Feel free to give me a call or text to work out the details.

    * Additional charge for boarding. Book early for a boarding spot.

  • Am I the right trainer for your dog?

Finding the right trainer can seem overwhelming. There are many different training methods and approaches, but balanced dog training is result based. Even when other training methods failed for dogs with severe behavior issues, balanced training has proven time after time to be successful. If you've been told to euthanize your dog for behavior problems, or if you haven't seen successful real life results with other trainers, I encourage you to find a balanced trainer in your area. There's hope for all dogs! Even when other trainers have told you there is not.*

My approach to dog training is sensible and results based. This approach is very natural for dogs, creating a calmer change in their state of mind. My goal as a dog trainer, is to help you have the best possible relationship with your dog so that you can include them more in your life.

Depending on your dogs behavior issue, you'll be given a set of rules to follow during and for a period after training has ended. To see the best results from your dog, you'll have to be as excited as I am to work together and trust in everything we're going over.

If you are 100% comfortable with my training techniques and 100% committed to helping your dog, you'll see awesome results. If you are on the fence, I suggest you take a look at our past customer reviews, give it some thought, and then decide for yourself if you're in the right place to make change happen. And dont forget that I will be there for you and your dog going forward for the life of your dog.  When you first call we will set up a visit and consultation with your dog free of charge to discuss what type of training would work best for you and your dog.

*Please do your homework and I encourage you to check out other trainers in your area. If either you or I feel that we are not a good match for training your dog, no hard feelings.

For example, I do not do aggression rehab. If you have an agressive dog that wants to do harm to other dogs or people don't give up on your dog with out working with an aggression rehab trainer.
